Dealing with PvP situations

Post by Carloss on Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:45 am

Yo DD's.

I've been having a think, and thought it would be beneficial to share ideas of how to deal with certain PvP situations;

The 1st situation that comes to mind is multiple Snipers...

Understandably, Getting hit by 2 SS 1 after the other, is most likely going to kill you, fair play to the opposition, your down and out fair and square. but, how do you really deal with snipers?

My tactic involves getting lucky and finding where they are, and stand on top of them (whilst flagged) so when they us Line Up The Shot (LUTS) it will not let them fall back into concealment because their 'too close to an enemy'. i also use countermeasures to find hidden snipers, but that only works if they are flagged as well. which is a rare occurance on Syntax.

But, if i know there's a sniper in the vicinity, i'll stay on hyper dodge and block when not in combat. (i always stay on block when not fighting, its a good habbit)

Lets hear your ideas and situations. It really could benefit our factions PvPer's.

I actually have never come up with any countermeasure other than putting on some ballistic defense clothing and sitting on block. For some reason when ever I get sniped I always wind up fighting the fucker or chasing him off. This is a really thought provoking issue. If you think about it, if there are 2 snipers about and noone else is flagged someone is going to die if they are any good. In my experiences double sniping with SW or Twie when ever we are the main focus of attention it makes it really arduous to get a double snipe to work, because of the sheer numbers driving out possible vantage points, not being able to get lost in the chaos and such. hmm.

Well, as an MA in PvP (my favoured load for all sorts of reasons) my main focus is taking out ranged opponents. All I really do is never stop looking around, even if I'm in interlock. I've had so many "Oh my god, you love me, you want my penis," complaints because I repeatedly shut down Hackers and Snipers during the melee (naming no names, of course).

It's so easy to get caught up in one fight - an opposing MA, for example - that you can lose the big picture, find yourself facing multiple ranged attacks, and be dead within seconds. It's not difficult to maintain the rule of going after Hackers and Gunmen first (in most, but not all situations). Most of them will run, and come back to exact their pathetic revenge whilst you're safely in interlock with someone else, but it may just buy you enough time to take down another opponent. Dividing, nine times out of ten, is conquering.

To respond directly to the Sniper issue, I let them get their Sniper Shot off, in most situations. You're only an anti (I despise buffs of all kinds, but I see nothing wrong in giving yourself a sweep with an anti) and a sprint away from catching them, and if you're not on the corresponding Hyper, and Block after seeing them wind up for it, then you probably deserve to die. (Conversely, I was both MA and Sniper with my Vector characters, and it's unbelievable how unprepared most people are for a SS). The reason I let them get SS off is that they'll only stop the process, let the timers come round, and try again when you're at a disadvantage. To expand on being prepared, Car1oss hit it on the head. If you know there are Snipers, then for god sake, sit on block and Hyper Dodge, and don't stand still. On Vector, I was again appalled almost by the amount of people who hadn't gone through the simple process of /who, switch to Dodge and block, change clothing, move around.

Overall, taking note of your surroundings, and the opponents your facing, is more than many others do. Ranged attacks are way more troublesome than MA's and IL-based Gunmen, so taking them out first is paramount. Like Mashoe with Car1oss, and many with me, they will get angry, and they will stomp their feet and get angry German kid at you. This just means you're winning. Keep it up.

Dividing, nine times out of ten, is conquering.
